Stop Spring Mulching

Do you look forward to spring every year so you can get back into your garden? Its a great time of year, but there are some chores that are just not fun. The good news is that there is one that you can avoid with some planning.  Stop the back breaking work of adding mulch to your gardens each spring. Instead, use ground covers to block out weeds and add attractive flowers to your perennial beds. There are endless choices to choose from.

Read about the benefit of using ground covers and find suggestions for a variety of garden conditions. Check out our newest entry on the Gardening Tips page!

Asian Jumping Worms: Invasive Species Reports

Wisdom tells us that earthworms are good for the soil. They improve drainage and aeration, increase nutrients, and enhance soil structure. While this may be true of some earthworm species, a family of more recently introduced earthworms are changing how we look at worms. Jumping worms are an invasive earthworm introduced to North America from eastern Asia. They have the potential to dramatically change soil structure, impact forest ecology, and reduce biodiversity. And they are present here in New Hampshire.

Learn how to look out for this species and help prevent their spread in the reference section of our Resources and Links page!
