A Collector's Guide to Hostas
Presented by Joan Butler, Master Gardener, Horticulturalist, Member of the New England Hosta Society

The Nashua Garden Club is excited to offer its February 2021 program, A Collector's Guide to Hostas, a topic quite applicable to New Hampshire growing conditions and climate, presented by Joan Butler, Master Gardener, horticulturalist and member of the New England Hosta Society. This illuminating and relevant presentation will take place Wednesday, February 3rd at 7:00 PM via a Zoom conference open to Nashua Garden Club members.

With more than 7,000 named varieties representing a broad variety of sizes, colors and shapes, there is a hosta to suit every taste and garden.  Joan’s engaging discussion will be accompanied by photos from her collection of over 300 hosta cultivars and other award-winning gardens. She will show the audience how to design a beautiful garden based on the interplays of color, texture and placement of these incredible hostas and companion plants.

Ms. Butler has been an enthusiastic gardener and plant collector for over 35 years. The gardens on her half-acre suburban property have been included
on several garden tours and feature exciting plant combinations, dramatic horticultural specimens, and extensive collections of native plants, hostas and epimediums. She holds a BA in Geology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Certificate in Landscape Management from UMass Extension Green School. She is also a horticulturist at Weston Nurseries, past Chairman of the Massachusetts Landscape Design Council, a member of the Garden Consultants Council and is an accredited Flower Show Judge. Joan is a frequent presenter at flower shows in Massachusetts and Connecticut, at numerous garden clubs, horticultural societies and professional organizations.

In accordance with guidance from public health officials about limiting the spread of COVID-19, the Nashua Garden Club will conduct this session virtually via a Zoom conference.  Participation will be available to members of the Nashua Garden Club.  To inquire about membership, please see the membership section on our website:  http://www.nashuanhgardenclub.org/membership .  Further questions can be sent to NashuaGardenClub@Gmail.com .
