Presented by Art Scarpa, Co-Founder of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts

The Nashua Garden Club is excited to offer its October program, the Traveling Cactus Show presented by Art Scarpa, cofounder, past president and current vice president of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts and certified judge for the Cactus and Succulent Society of America.  This upbeat and educational event will take place on Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00 PM via a Zoom conference open to Nashua Garden Club members. Art will provide a discussion of the Cactus’ native habitats, temperature and light requirements, cultural tips, fertilizers, propagation, insect controls, re-potting, soil mixes and sources for purchasing them.  Attendees will learn that cactuses and succulents are not just thorny spines but that this group includes many unusual and fascinating varieties that can be easily grown.

In addition to being owner and caretaker for some 4,000 cactuses and succulents of 1,000+ varieties, Art also judges for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, is current vice president of the Hobby Greenhouse Association and Indoor Gardeners of New England and is a member of the International Palm Society. He is a frequent lecturer for Cactus & Succulent Societies and at flower shows, including those in Boston, Connecticut and Newport Rhode Island where he has displayed numerous award-winning plants. Art’s accomplishments also include chairing events such as the Society Row Plant Sale, that has drawn up to 1500 visitors, and organizing 300+ volunteers to landscape and plant gardens in the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway located in Boston Mass.

In accordance with guidance from public health officials about limiting the spread of COVID-19, the Nashua Garden Club will conduct this virtual program via a Zoom conference.  This program will be available for members of the Nashua Garden Club.  To inquire about membership, please see the membership section on this website.
